COLUMBUS PET LAW AND
PET LICENSE GUIDE
The City of Columbus and the County of Muscogee are a joint
county-city for administration purposes. And this can make things
a little easier for having pets. This guide is only for educational
purposes, and if you have any questions, please contact Animal
Control or a licensed Georgia Attorney.
Columbus does have a site for Pet Laws, you can call the county offices if you have questions
at (706) 653-4512. For the Muscogee county animal law site Click Here!
Columbus Pet Licenses -
Dogs and Cats - Each dog or cat that is 4 months old or older must be registered with the
animal control and enforcement division. Some Veterinarians, including Benning Animal
Hospital, can process the forms and registration for you. The dog and/or cat must be
vaccinated for rabies before registration. While the fee changes from time to time, it is still
under $20 pet pet per year for Spayed or Neutered animals, much less than some cities!
Animals must be current on rabies vaccines each year for renewing your license. Please note
the permits do cost more for unspayed/un-neutered animals.
Guard Dogs- Require a numbered Red Collar ($25) plus registration and proof of Rabies.
